History

Decades of fuel cell expertise
combined in one joint venture

We established cellcentric in 2021, but our technological journey spans more than three decades. By combining the pioneering research of our parent companies, we accelerate the transition to climate-neutral heavy-duty transport.

Development timeline

Constant development leads to major improvement over the years

1994

NECAR 1

In 1994 the NECAR 1 (New Electric Car) concept car, based on an MB100, was the world's first zero-emission, road-legal vehicle powered by a PEM (Polymer-Elektrolyt-Membran) fuel cell.

2021

cellcentric is founded

Daimler Truck AG and Volvo Group AB merge their fuel cell expertise into one 50:50 joint venture on 1 March 2021.

2024

BZA150 enters series development

Our current-generation system reaches up to 143 kW and an expected service life of 25,000 hours, matching the operational lifecycles of commercial fleets.

2026

BZA375 sets a new benchmark

Our next-generation system delivers up to 375 kW of continuous net power, 20% lower fuel consumption and 40% less complexity than its predecessor.
