The game changer in heavy-duty fuel cell systems
Our BZA375 fuel cell system is the answer to the heavy-duty long-haul requirements. More than 30 years of experience in fuel cell system development, and optimization and production with automotive focus have culminated in this system. The next generation offers one compact unit with expected TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) benchmark performance to accelerate the possibilities for the future of mobility and trucks. Compared to the last generation we have improved our fuel cell system in a number of ways:
- 20% lower fuel consumption
- 40% less waste heat at 300 kW net power
- 40% higher power density
- 40% less complexity
This makes the fuel cell system even more attractive for use in long-haul trucks and the like, thanks to its low weight, long range and high flexibility, combined with a single system package.
Engineered for best-in-class total cost of ownership
375 kW
More than 500 hp continuous net power for demanding long-haul routes, from a single system weigthing less than 500 kg.
<6 kg H₂ per 100 km
20% lower than BZA150 generation, for a fully loaded 40-ton truck in real-world driving conditions.
25,000 hours
Approx. 10 years in heavy-duty long-haul operation, matching standard commercial fleet lifecycles.
Redefining heavy-duty TCO
With an expected fuel consumption of less than 6 kg of H₂ per 100 km for a fully loaded 40-tonne truck under real-world driving conditions, BZA375 improves fuel efficiency by 20% compared to the current benchmark system, BZA150. This significant efficiency improvement reduces the total cost of ownership (TCO) for fleet operators, making zero-emission long-haul transport commercially viable.

The predecessor of our BZA375 heavy-duty fuel cell system
BZA150 is our current-generation system, already on public roads today. It set the world record for the longest driving distance on a single H2 tank: 1,047 kilometers in a fully loaded 40-ton truck under real-world conditions. It was also tested at high altitudes and around the Arctic Circle. BZA375 builds directly on this proven foundation.

One efficient system for multiple use-cases
Our latest fuel cell systems were developed to meet the requirements of heavy-duty trucks. The most relevant technical comparison for our system is with current diesel engines, which currently enable trucks to travel the longest distance per tank of fuel. In recent years, we have continuously and significantly improved power output, power density, and cost efficiency.

Want to understand the engineering behind BZA375?
BZA375 achieves its performance through a set of key engineering levers: an optimized 3-row stack architecture, the Media Distribution Manifold enabling compact packaging, the Electric Turbo Charger delivering up to 50 kW additional net power on steep gradients, and the Hydrogen Recirculation Blower delivering 2.5 times the hydrogen mass flow of BZA150 at the same power consumption. Learn how each component contributes to best-in-class performance.
Technical details explained
Is BZA375 ready for large-scale series production?
The production facility in Esslingen-Pliensauvorstadt will be further evolved to cater for series production of BZA375 up until the KLIMA|WERK becomes operations. We plan to start large-scale series production at the KLIMA|WERK site in the greater Stuttgart region around 2030, in alignment with EU CO2 legislation.
What are the key improvements compared to BZA150 generation?
We have achieved a 40% increase in power density and a 40% reduction in complexity. BZA375 also delivers a 20% reduction in fuel consumption and a 40% reduction in waste heat at 300 kW net power.
Can this system directly replace a diesel engine?
As Tier 1 supplier we engineer fuel cell systems that provide best-in-class TCO required to replace diesel powertrains in long-haul heavy-duty transport. BZA375 fits standard 13-liter diesel engine compartments of heavy-duty trucks allowing to use parts of the existing vehicle platforms. However, fuel cell technology is not compatible with the powertrain architecture of a conventional diesel truck, since a fuel cell-electric truck (FCEV) has an electric powertrain and other components - such as the fuel tank system - also differ significantly from those of a diesel truck.
